Wen,na,nec / Tsawout First Nation Trail – Feb. 21, 2015
LENGTH: 4 km loop (approx.)
TRAIL: Easy – no grade to speak of, but path is full of roots and rocks so not easy walking.
OK FOR TODDLERS (see above)
TRAILHEAD: In the south end, at the end of Menhinick Drive (take Beaver Point Rd, then Bridgeman to Menhinick).
NB. NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THIS TRAIL. This trail is on the property of the Tsawout First Nation Reservation, they allow the public to walk this gorgeous trail so we owe it to them to follow their regulations, which include a ban on dogs, for the sake of ground-nesting birds and shellfish (see the sign below).
This is one of the most beautiful trails on the island, at the moment it’s my all-time favourite. The trail doesn’t have a steep grade or anything, but it is rather rough going in places – roots and rocks – and it can get pretty muddy at the start.
The trail is a 4km loop, you go out along the shore and come back through the trees, however it is easily shortened, if you just go as far as the first beach and then turn back.
There aren’t many trails more beautiful than this on a sunny day!
