Hello, I am looking to get in touch with some families that have kids at salt spring elementary. We’re new to the island. I have a two boys one going in grade one and the other in 5. Would be great for them to meet a friend before the big day.

Hi Sarah – If you’re on facebook I’d recommend looking up the “Parents of Kids at Salt Spring Elementary” group – it’s a great source for SSE news and events. It’s a closed group, though, I think you need to be friends with a member and ask to join. Other than that, if you want to meet local kids in the next few days, your best bet is hanging out at playgrounds and beaches (as soon as the weather clears). Or the skateboard park, if they’re into that kind of thing. But don’t worry if you don’t meet anyone right away, the first day of school at SSE is not at all intimidating – just an hour and a half, I think – both the boys and you will be able to meet everyone then. I’m on the SSE PAC and we’ll have coffee and muffins for parents that day – come and say hello. Welcome to Salt Spring! – Kim
