Please note: Although our own kids have attended quite a few of these camps, we cannot personally vouch for every one of the camps listed below, we are simply sharing information as we come across it.
SUMMER 2017 CAMPS & WORKSHOPS
NEW: Ocean Art Studio’s 2-day Art Camps
For ages 9 – 12, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am-3pm, $99 (for 2 days, includes all supplies).
1st day: life drawing/watercolor/creative journaling or collage
2nd day: acrylic painting

Space is limited! Class sizes are very small, a maximum of 8 kids (min 6), to ensure one-on-one attention. Kids must bring their own lunches and drinks.

Summer Library Camp: Oh! Canada!
This year’s summer library camp will be full of fun and laughs and crafts as we explore Canadian authors, history and themes!
The camp will go from July 10th– 14th and July 17th-21st, with two daily sessions:
10:30-12:30 (ages 5-7)
2:00-4:00 (ages 8-12)
This year’s camp will also feature a number of visiting presenters from the community and from off-island. The Travelling Puppet Show will be returning for 3 shows on July 12th, 13th and 14th as well as a show at the Saturday Market on July 15th.

Camp Colossal – 5-12 yrs. Mon-Fri, 8:30-3:30, July 3 – Sept 1, $32/day.
Location: Portlock Park Portable Classroom. The Camp Colossal schedule can be found right here.
Off Island Adventure Camp – 6-12 yrs. Wednesdays, 8:15-4:15, July 5 to Aug 30, $39/day. Limit is 18 participants. Location: Pick up and drop off at Portlock Park by the tire swing. The Off Island Adventure Camp can be found right here.
NEW: After Hours Camp – 5-12 yrs. An extension of Camp Colossal & Off Island Camp. Runs same days as camp colossal, 3:30-5:30, $5/day.
Preschool Mini Camp – 3-5 yrs. Mon-Fri, 9:00-12:00, July 10 – 14, July 24-28, Aug 14 – Aug 18, Aug 28 – Sep 1. $89/week.
Location: Portlock Park Picnic Shelter.
H2O Adventure Camp – 7-12 yrs. Mon-Fri, 1:00pm-4:30, July 17-21, Aug 21-25. $98/week.
Location: Rainbow Road Indoor Pool.
This half-day camp is full of aquatic activities. Supervised free time and an introduction to a new water sport like diving, snorkeling, water polo, underwater hockey and more. Swimmers must be comfortable swimming in deep water without a life jacket. Please bring snacks, water and outdoor clothing for playground activities.
Ocean Adventures Day Camp – 12-18 yrs. Mon-Fri, 8:30-4:30, July 17-21, Aug 14-18. $700/week.

Survival Adventures Day Camp – 10-16 yrs. Mon-Fri, 8:30-4:30, July 24-28, July 31-Aug 4. $500/week.

Kid’s Table – 10-14 yrs. Mon-Fri, 10:00am-3:30pm, Aug 21-25. $180/week.
Location: SIMS Home Ec. Room, 120 Rainbow Rd.
Farm, cook, eat! This new camp will focus on cooking, and learning about food from around the world and where our food comes from. Out of the kitchen, participants will visit and learn about our local food producers
and farms and tour a grocery store. In the kitchen, both fundamental and cultural recipes will be taught along with food handling and safety, knife skills and healthy eating practices.
NB. Preregistration is required for all PARC camps – it cannot be done at the time of drop off. Pre-registration is available online until 11:30 pm the night before the camp. Online: www.crd.bc.ca/ssiprograms

Sewing Summer Day Camp (Mudpuppy Studios)

Amazing Abstraction : Introduction to the Principles of Abstraction

Students will be introduced to the work of important abstract artists and explore shape, colour, gesture, line and composition. One artist will be
introduced each day through books and videos and their visual principles explored. Artists include Henri Matisse (shape), Mark Rothko (color),
Vasily Kandinsky (gesture), A.Y.Jackson (composition) and Cy Twombly ( line). Mediums include acrylic paints, watercolours, chalk & oil pastel,
cutouts, charcoal, pencil & conte.
Modern Art Mania : An Introduction to Materials thru Modern Art
Ages 6 – 9yrs

Materials are introduced to students, through viewing the work of artists both historical and contemporary. Several materials will be introduced and
explored each day thru the artists work. We will draw to music, explore big drawing gestures, cut out shapes, and paint with watercolor and acrylic,
while looking at Jackson Pollock, Henri Matisse, Vasily Kandinsky, Georgia O’Keefe and more.
Kreative Kids Art Camps with Joanna Hoskins
Kreative Kids art camps are happening again this year. July 3 to 7 and August 14 to 18. We offer a well rounded art experience for kids ages 6 and up. Faerie Magic / Faerie Fun Camp

Oona has been running her very popular ecological arts camps for girls for the past eleven years. Faerie Camp has become a tradition on Salt Spring! She is the music teacher at the Salt Spring Centre School, and has over 25 years experience as a Celtic harpist, storyteller, singer-songwriter, performer, and educator working with children in many creative settings.
Plant Magic Camp
For Girls ages 8-10 who love Creativity and Nature

Join us as we adventure into the green world of plants and learn how to make simple but effective medicines, treats, and body care products with much-loved children’s herbs. From chocolate lip-gloss and chamomile mango strawberry popsicles, to rosehip jam, sun and moon infusions, and herbal wands, our week will be brimming with hands-on learning that will engage our minds, our bodies, and our senses.

Teens & Adults 1 day Art Retreats
Learn to draw and paint with a quiet mind for joy and connection.
During this special day you will learn the Creative By Nature Art Method- a heartfelt contemplative drawing and painting practice that supports authentic creative expression with natural ease while it depends nature connection through art. Truly fun and playful yet surprisingly simple ways to draw and paint will make you burst with creativity as you build water media painting skills and boost your creative confidence. Forest to Beach Adventure Camp is Back! This program includes hiking, outdoor games, swimming and lots of summer camp fun. Based in the woods and at the beach, there is plenty of time for creative play, fort building, hide n seek and running games, beach play, nature art, story telling, singing, tree climbing and more. This is a small, multi age group.
